Engineering Portfolio: Chris Berthelet

          While at UC Berkeley, I was a dedicated member on the CalSol: Solar Vehicle Team. CalSol is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to design, build, test, and race fully solar powered vehicles. The competitions that we compete in include the American Solar Challenge as well as the World Solar Challenge. 

         

          I began as a general member and eventually transitioned into the Driver Interface Lead role. In this role I lead the design, fabrication, and testing of engineering systems pertaining to the vehicle's braking and acceleration. The first vehicle I worked on, Zephyr, was of the Challenger class. This is a smaller single person solar vehicle. My team and I are now transitioning into the Cruiser class, in which we design a more commercial type solar vehicle that seats 2-4 passengers. We are currently in the design process and will move on to the manufacturing process in Fall 2017.
